When I was writing The Crushing Weight of Inertia, I tried out a slow and fast version of the intro riff, and although the slow version made more sense in that context, I really liked the fast version. So I took the fast version and made some changes to it, and then built this song around it. By the time it was done, that first riff only shows up near the beginning. Compositionally, I feel like this is a bit of a step up from the EP. Lyrically, it's a tribute to one of my all-time favourite characters in science fiction. - Jon
